What is flower essence therapy?

Flower essences are a subtle but powerful soul healing modality.

Flower essence therapy unfolds over time

True healing is a living process: it grows and unfolds gradually over time. Plants – as beings of transformation which metamorphose, step by step, from seed to leaf to flower to fruit – are uniquely qualified to help us with our own soul-spiritual growth over time.

So while flower essences can be helpful in situations of acute stress, where they really shine is when they are taken intentionally and rhythmically over longer periods of time.

With this gradual approach, the essences can reach deeper and deeper layers of our inner being and gently catalyze insight and growth.

What kinds of changes can we observe?

  • When taking flower essences regularly over time, it is possible to start to feel a deepened sense of internal support coming from an invisible source
  • Essences often help the inner work and emotional healing that we’ve already done  “land” and integrate more deeply into our system. As such, they are very helpful adjuncts to many other therapeutic modalities
  • We may gain more internal distance from our own thoughts and feelings. Suddenly, we’re not as merged with our own emotional and mental patterns. We can look at these patterns more clearly and with more neutrality. We have more freedom.
  • Essences can help us receive insights into our situation and create  new patterns of thought which previously may not have been available to us
  • And more…

Why flowers?

There exists a mysterious correspondence between our inner life of soul and the outer world of nature. In a sense, nature mirrors our inner soul landscape.

Flowers in particular are potent imaginations of emotional-mental states and patterns. By working with flowers that resonate with the specific emotional-mental patterns that we’re seeking to transform within ourselves, subtle but powerful shifts can start to unfold into an integrated, harmonious inner soul landscape.

“Flowers represent the plant’s triumph against challenges and adversity” (adapted from Dennis Klocek, alchemist, artist and teacher). Plants have found creative ways of growing and ultimately flourishing in all kinds of challenging habitats. Flower essences can support us in also overcoming our own versions of deserts and droughts, dark forests, bogs and rocky cliff sides.

The flowering moment is when the plant unfolds into its full and unique potential – its spiritual signature. The flower is the plant’s gift to the world. As soul growth and integration occur, we too can embody more and more of who we truly are and uncover more and more of our own gifts and potential.
